Ballet at the theatre in Kazachstan

By coincedence dressed to the occasion, a collegue and I decided to go to the theatre in Almaty. We made reservations at the hotel and came by taxi at the theatre. There we had to explain in our best Russian that we made reservations.

After the performance we had to arrange a taxi ourselfes to get back to our hotel. No idea how that worked. An expat explained: "You just stand alongside of the road and wait till a car stops. Then you ask if it is a taxi. If they say yes, you assume that they are thruthful".

In Japan is het toilet een cultuurshock. Eerst is er een feest aan toeters en bellen. Vervolgens ga je er toch maar eens op zitten.....blijkt de wc-bril verwarmd.

Mocht je je schamen voor alle geluiden; geen probleem, dan zet je een 'flushing toilet'-geluidje op. Ben je klaar, dan kun je kiezen uit een arsenaal aan mogelijkheden om je 'private parts' weer schoon te krijgen.

En ondertussen niet vergeten om de begeleidende instructies te lezen.....
